Six steps to choose an air conditioner or heat pump suited to your home, then order the equipment and its accessories.
List the rooms to equip with their floor area, ceiling height, exposure and insulation. Specify the use: cooling, heating or both. If your home has water-based central heating (radiators, underfloor heating), an air-to-water heat pump can replace the boiler.
One room: single-split. Two to five rooms with a single outdoor unit: multi-split. The whole home, discreetly: ducted unit with multi-zone control. Central heating and hot water: air-to-water heat pump. Offices, shops and buildings: commercial ranges and VRF systems.
For cooling, allow about 100 W per m² for a 2.5 m ceiling, then adjust for exposure and insulation. For heating, capacity is determined by a heat loss calculation: ask your installer for one.
Make sure the indoor and outdoor units are compatible with each other (same range, combinations approved by the manufacturer) and with your electrical supply, single-phase or three-phase. Identify where the outdoor unit will go, the length of the refrigerant lines and how condensate will drain.
Add what the installation needs to your order: refrigerant lines, trunking, condensate drainage, wall or floor supports, controller or thermostat. Check on each product page what is supplied with the unit.
Split air conditioners, VRF systems and split heat pumps must be connected and commissioned by a company holding a refrigerant handling certificate (attestation de capacité in France). If supporting documents are required for your order, you are told before purchase.
